About
Maarten is a software engineer/solutions architect who graduated in 2011. He's very eager to learn and needs complex technical and/or functional environments to feel well, he needs to be challenged. In this regard, Maarten became a freelance software developer in secondary occupation in 2014: Now he could use and research al the newer, state-of-the-art technologies that the more mature companies still thought were too new. Maarten works best in an environment that is quite open, where there is room for a joke and some chit-chat as he's rather outgoing in personality.
Available for secondary occupation projects: Feel free to contact me for software development projects (from scratch or as a consultant), to evaluate and propose process improvements, or to guide non-IT minded organizations with IT projects. I help bridge the gap between technical solutions and business requirements, ensuring successful project outcomes.

Tech stack
I have no issues learning/working with other technologies than the ones listed over here, but these are my favorites. (E.g., experience with Spring & some experience with C#.NET, data science platforms and Python as well, but these are not part of the tech stack I "master" or would choose myself.)

Professional Experience (Main Occupation)
Specialist Solutions Architect (AppDev & AI)
January 2023 - Present
With a background on software development, Maarten started in the beginning of 2023 as specialist solutions architect for Red Hat, with a specialisation on application development, being: the developer usage of OpenShift, the integration/middleware layer (i.e., 3Scale API Gateways, Kafka, Keycloak, Camel, ServiceMesh, Knative/serverless, ...) and the developer tooling (i.e., dev spaces, ArgoCD, Tekton pipelines, ...).
SOFTWARE ENGINEER - TEAMLEAD
August 2017 - End of 2022
Axians, Ghent, BE
Maarten started as software engineer at Axians where he developed a CRM focused on welding for Actemium. This was a SpringBoot/VueJS application hosted on OpenShift. Next to the CRM, Maarten developed a home automation tool in OpenHAB for Cegelek. Later on Maarten became part of the COP architectuur at Axians. Maarten became software teamlead from January 2021 onward.
SOFTWARE DEVELOPER - SCRUM master (As Axians consultant)
January 2018 - Present
BASF crop science, Ghent, BE
Maarten started as SCRUM master and software engineer (Java) at the Phoenix team as a consultant from Axians. This team is responsible for creating applications for breeders, labs and data scientist to ameliorate performance of plants and to guide genetic modification of plants. This experience is labelled under "BASF": the department started as being part of Bayer, but BASF took it over in 2019 following the Bayer - Monsanto merger.
Technical lead
February 2016 - August 2017
Foreach, Antwerp, BE
Maarten was technical lead for projects regarding the InvestImmo project (management tool for your real estate portfolio), Knooppunt (license management tool for educational books), and De tijd (newspaper in Belgium). He left quite fast as he didn't agree with management's view on code quality and customer treatment.
Software developer
September 2011 - February 2016
AGFA HealthCare , Ghent, BE
Maarten was part of a SCRUM team that developed interfaces in between software used in hospitals (software of Agfa with software of external parties).
Professional Experience (Secondary Occupation)
Maarten started his own company (in secondary occupation) in April 2014. He did some projects for the university of Ghent (creating a tailor- made CRM for ordering lab samples), MRL (creating a tailor-made CRM for metal recycling), developing actively at the Eqify platform (Belgian horses CRM), developing applications for Creafor and he developed an Android application for the technical department of city Lokeren.
Next to this all, he became CTO of WilisWilis inc (US) and PointSpot inc (US), both targeting the real estate market in the US. WilisWilis has next to the board (3 members. including Maarten) only one extra developer so far, so the term "CTO" is a fancy name for main developer at the moment.
